With Kira-Fansubs having been established for over a year now, we’d thought it’d be beneficial to both us and the fans of our work if we did something common in the real business world; a yearly evaluation report. However as with most things I head up (see the “Let’s Play A Game” post below if you haven’t already; it’s super fun 
) I like to do things a little differently and with my own special spin on things. So with this evaluation report we’ll ask the viewers for their opinions on a variety of different things in a variety of different ways. Following this paragraph there will several different polls available for you to vote in, as well as a couple of ranking polls designed for you guys to let us know how we’re doing. However, if you would like feel free to leave a lengthy statement in the comments section below, I will personally read all of these comments and reply to all of them in a somewhat timely manner. Furthermore, if you want to be even more ballsy, Me (kliqIMB), Romeyo, and Maruko will all be in IRC Monday night (the 17th) where we’ll have a live chat about the site, the shows, and just everything in general. With that in mind ON TO THE POLLS!
1) The most common poll for any group that focuses on Blu Ray releases, do you prefer 720p or 1080p?! (This is just for informational purposes, the results of this poll will have no effect on the quality of either resolution in our future releases)
2) Here’s one that is pretty damn important to most muxers, if the original sub group releases the BD should Kira release them as well? Also, if we were to drop the BD should we continue to release the JUST the extras?
3) What sort of subs do you prefer, do you enjoy a more liberal translation (ie, may or may not have honorifics), or a stricter translation (ie, sentences may not flow well, but translation is closer to original Japanese)?
4) On the topic of encoding, do you care about encoding from our own BDMV or are raws from respectable groups (ie, Youseii, Zero, etc) fine?
5) Finally, as most of you can see, Kira’s releases tend to lean towards the ecchi demographic which often times results in nsfw pictures in the release post; would you like to the site “cleaned up” a bit, or is it just fine the way it is. (Note: This will not effect the doujinshi section of Kira, just the main section of anime releases)

Overall I like Kira’s work but please, finish Lovely Complex (2 Ep’s in a yr pfft;’(). I appreciate your work thus far and i know Lovely Complex probably isn’t on your top to-do list(probably not too popular). You guys are the only 1′s i know of doing a DVD treatment for this under-rated anime.
It’s not like LC is the least in my list it’s just need a lot of work if I’m going to do it I want it to be the best one out there that why I’m taking my time with it.
here is the update:
I found all the DVD ISO’s so we will be encoding from the ISO and not using the chines RAWS, still the problem with the seed so it will take more time.
I think ep 1 -3 are done transcribe and edited. still it would be better if we edit and transcribe the whole show before start on releasing them. and last which I really hope to see a BD release for this one but that rarely will happen. so don’t give up on us we will release Lovely Complex sooner or later ^__^

Thanks for the compliment, I think based on the votes thus far and comments I’ve been seeing we’re going to start doing some heavy QC on the scripts we release with, just to make sure that any errors the original group had we catch and take out.
If I can bother you with a tech question, one thing I’ve been meaning to ask for some time is how do I get the subtitles file from a muxed video? I’m clueless when it comes to this stuff.
Use mkvtoolnix, google it.
To be more specific you’ll want something called mkvextractgui (or at least that’s what I use) really simple just load up the video file you want and it’ll break down all the components you can extract from it. Audio, video, subtitles, chapters, etc.
I just wanted to add that while I respect that you guys really finish what you start, and quickly, sometimes it seems rushed. I voted Seikon as my least favourite, since your 1080 release was riddled with typos, that filenames were inconsistent that I ended up deleting the lot. It seems a shame to put hard work and effort into releases, only to have them undermined by little things.
SnQ is sort of a black sheep project at the moment, we have a bunch of different ways to go about re-releasing it (since like you said the first releases were pretty error ridden), but we’re not exactly sure how we’re going to go about doing it right now. That said, expect whatever we do decide upon to be the best quality we can provide.
I just recently found out about kira-fansubs so I can’t really give much input, yet it’s been great since then,.I appreciate everyone’s work and thank you for your dedication and work, nice job!

For Stereo Soundtracks vorbis Q8 is your friend. I would be happy be Q6 personally, but Q8 should please the non-retarded weebos while still reducing file size.
Replying to myself.. most Kira releases are in AAC, which is just fine, (and I believe, depending on the encoder used, better quality than vorbis for same bitrate,), so the comment probably doesn’t really apply here.
You would be correct in that statement.
I myself prefer AAC over pretty much any other encode including FLAC.

I really like your works, but I think you can do better than usual.
For example, QTS raws in my point of views are really horrible for BD rips.For Audio I would like to say that FLAC, TRUEHD or AC3 are better than the AAC codec.
It’s just a question of quality video, and of course it’s my opinion, but QTS raws and AAC codec, I mean, there is better on th net, ya know.

we starting to use BDMV for encoding our encode, still i don’t think QTS did bad job with the old shows they the only group who bothered encoding them. for the audio, there is no point in encoding them to something other than AAC if the original audio were 2 channel PCM, in case the was 5.1 channel I will add an AAC track with extra track in could be either FLAC or AC3 for the surround system lover to enjoy there anime.

For QTS, it’s just an opinion, and I’m not the only one to think what I just said.
They didn’t do a bad job, but it’s just that for blu-ray quality it is very poor…
I remember way back then when Romeyo started K-Fs.
Back then it was only him,I thought he’d continue on by himself just like Toybox.
I’m actually surprised that K-Fs has grown and hopefully it’ll continue growing

I pretty much like Kira-Fansub for the shows they provided. If you guys would also concentrate on other shows aside from ecchi/borderline H ones it would be even better. Looking forward to your next releases and hope you decide to do Shiki, definitely wanna see this one is BD quality.

Yeah I agree with you, I want to see a good Naruto encode for example (an upsacle doesn’t really matter aslong as it’s good encoded)

well if u take a look we did uchuu no stellvia, nadisco, maid-sama, Aoi Hana. u see that we have a collection of different genre. and I think most show that really need BD/DVD is the ecchi one since the normal one usually get an HD release which is equal to BD/DVD
As Romeyo said we do have a “few” releases that aren’t completely ecchi, however one of the reasons that we mostly have the ecchi releases is that they’re often times overlooked by the original fansub groups when the BDs come out. Furthermore, I’ll let you in on a little secret, with this new season shaping up the way it is there are several shows I want to work on that aren’t ecchi so expect that in the future.
Also on the subject of the Shiki BDs, as we don’t have the actual disc to encode from we’ve had to rely on someone releasing a BDMV file or a raw….neither of which have shown up as of yet, and believe me I look every 2-3 days because I want to do that show.

I found kira-subs because you were the only ones to have done BD episodes 7 and 8 of Highschool of the Dead. However, I did not understand why you batched some episodes together, and others did not get a batch release. As for the quality of the encodes, I have not extensively checked the encode and script,but it seems to be above average and fit for archiving.
Additionally, I am a long time Anime fan and have seen many sub groups come and go. Overall I would say I appreciate how closely you work with the community. There are predominant groups in the business like THORA, but you rarely ever see them interact with the community or even announce what their plans are. In my humble opinion, the more you work with the community, the more the community will support you! Keep up the good work.
Hi i usually just read your stuff but i have a few of your batches so i would like to comment since its an evaluation
I usually download you guys first if thora or coalgirls (if its not gigantic) havent done it [no offense] but there usually arent crossovers and i enjoy your work since i realize fansubbers do this for free and many of us “leech” im grateful especially since groups dont usually do the blu-ray version for their series (double work i guess?)
plz keep doing what you are doing while i wait for 720p batch for HotD and possibly SnQ 720p if it comes out

BDMV= ISO which the original BD Disk rip but instead into ISO they copy all the file from the Disk and share it.
Nothing to say about the Videos themselves, they are awesome. I would just like it if after a project was complete or as it’s being done. If you could organize them in a simple to read list of links. I just found scrolling threw multiple post to find each episode is sort of annoying, mostly because I don’t know if I missed the v2 or not. and it’s not easy to check back and see. Maybe it’s because I am using megaupload. Anyway just a lot of scrolling up and down.

I actually have brought this up once before, but kinda forgot about it as time when on. I actually have an idea on how to re-vamp the projects page that would definitely make it a lot easier on everyone for the older series’
You guys really need to fix Seikon no Qwaser! and get it out or atleast tell us how its going or are you guys even going to redo them or do i need to grab your old ones?
As I’m sure every staff member here has said countless times, we are looking for a way to fix SnQ. It’s the black sheep. People bitched about the BDMV encode last time saying that it was worse than the raws we used, and people bitched about the raws we used when we were using them. The scripts are getting overhauls with more QC and editting. Have a little patience as I’m sure we’ll get them out eventually.

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to your staff, I have been a fan since your beginning. Anyways, your group is the “only” one I know of that gives a damn about your fans. You do this for FREE and anyone who knows just a little bit about the Japanese-side of the industry knows that BD’s are not cheap. One hundred dollars (American) for a single Strike Witches 2 BD! But I digress, anyone who is not happy with it can download some other groups shows, you guys are almost always first on releases, good quality encodes, and you care about US. And if I remember correctly “Kira” said he liked “ecchi” shows, and I completely agree they get overlooked by other groups. Admit it, we all come here for the same reason! So if and when they decide to do something else, if you like it show your support, post a comment, donate, or tell a friend. So I think I have said enough, keep up the most awesome work and here is too another great year!!!!!
