Onegai Teacher Episodes 1-6 (1080p/720p 10bit)

Sadly, the source was so fucked up you shouldn’t expect much from the 1080p for this one. Also, since its source is so bad, I decided not to bother doing Onegai Twins.
If you’re wondering why this is 10bit, it’s because we are going to start using 10bit for the new projects from now on, and because my encoder (Virus123) wants to encode using it. If you have any questions about the encode, aim them at him.
Announcement: We are still looking for an experienced timer and a typesetter. I think we are covered as far as quality checker and editor, but we will still welcome you if you want to join as backup as long as you have the skills needed.
Thanks.

  1. It’s unfortunate to hear that you guys won’t be doing Onegai Twins BD.
Would you happen to know any other groups that are doing the BDs?

  2. Yeah, too bad that you won’t do Twins.
If the source is not that great, then why not just doing a 720P version?

  3. @Rikku – Not just doing 720 because I already encoded 1080. The reason I encoded 1080 in the first place is because certain episodes had different issues that I did not see while checking out episode 1.

  4. There’s a big audience that doesn’t have the hardware for hi10P. Why not offer both 8-bit 720p AND that useless mutant betamax hi10P format? I don’t understand those who want to make it one or the other. There are several different types of 480p encodes after all. And why drop up to 40% of your following (based on torrent AND DL traffic when a group offers both.) They fit different hardware niches. Hi10P 720p is more a competitor for 8-bit 1080p in hardware terms. The lack of interest in this new format among video software producers and outside of anime is something to think about.

Ironic to release this title, given the parallels 8thSin points out between this title and a “new” series in current release (Ano Natsu).

I’ll check back in a week before I erase my bookmark to Kira and move on. Either way, thanks for the past.

    • Because encoders do this for free and I don’t feel like doing double the work. And I literally mean double the work since I need to do filtering differently for 8bit. Also for me the filtering is more time consuming for 8bit and I end up with an inferior product to 10bit.

I know not everyone has a monster encoding machine, but my piece of shit laptop can play 720p 10bit without issue. Please don’t preach about “hardware requirements” because fansubbers almost always encode for PC use. I’m sorry that I have inconvenienced you in your pursuit of free anime. I don’t know why you felt the need to make this post when I already made these views clear when you posted on my site a month ago.

      • I also have a piece-of-shit laptop (7 years old) and it plays 1080p 10bit without a problem (although it does max the CPU). My phone can pull that off on some encodes.
If you have a problem, why not re-encode it yourself. (you can use the MKVtoolnix pack + x264 encoder or an application like Handbrake.) There are plenty of tutorials online. Your download will also be smaller.
This is the future of fansubbing and you may as well find a way to deal with it now.

    • You can erase all your fansub bookmarks then, because 8bit is pretty much dead among the fansub scene.

    • “Ironic to release this title, given the parallels 8thSin points out between this title and a “new” series in current release (Ano Natsu).”
No real irony here – It was chosen because of Ano Natsu

    • Rather than complaining about how Hi10p advancement is gradually eating up the future, you could have just downloaded what Virus123 encoded and encode it by yourself into 8-bit, instead of demanding the encoder to do the work when he preferred not to.

It’s just a matter of time before Hi10p dominates the commercial standards, and I’ve seen people complaining about why DVD should be used instead of VCD.

Where they could have been now? IDK.

    • I am planning to mux the Exiled-Destiny English Audio track into this BD version, since I found out that they are totally in-sync (or at least on episode 01).

If all goes well, all episodes should be timed with E-D audio tracks, and I can make a modified Kira version with dual-audio.

  5. Count me as asking for Onegai Twins. I never thought Onegai Teacher to be a great series, specially because I didn’t like the main characters (Kei and Mizuho), but I absolutely loved Onegai Twins. Miyafuji Miina and Onodera Karen are absolutely adorable.

  6. Awesome, I was halfway through the DVD encode but might have to pick this version up instead. How long before the 2nd part?

Also voting for Onegai Twins too.

  7. Thanks a bunch for doing this series., it’s been years since I’ve watched it.

I’d also like to vote for a Onegai Twins release.

  8. Some pics would be useful, just to see how fucked up we’re talking about, for me there’s no Onegai Teacher without Twins so, it would be great if you did it too!… ^_^

  9. You guys are doing Onegai Sensei? I watched that years ago, still have it on my computer. Any reason I should download your release? Other than because you guys do a good job?

And Twins is not that good when compared to Sensei, I should know. I watched both series 8 times in a row. (took a really long time)

    • I change my mind, Onegai Twins does need an updated version, besides as long as you can see it and it looks good im happy (Music and story are important too though).

  10. Is it me or there’s something wrong with the OP and ED subs? they appear and vanish, no english and it blocks my player :| , i dont have any other problems with any other anime or video files, thx and +1 for onegai twins :)

  11. I’ve been meaning to watch this show for a while now. Looks like I just found a better copy than the old shitty DVD-rip I have. I guess I’ll wait for your batch.
If the 1080p is really not worth it, I’ll take the 720p.
Also, I really hope you change your mind about Onegai Twins. I’m also currently sitting with quite a shitty copy of that one that I’d like to replace.

  12. damn i love ya guys that is so awesome hope to see onegai twins as well onegai ^^

and especially RahXephon that is anime sooooooooo f* awesome

  13. My friends, my buddies, my……oh nevermind….out of breath already

While I really, really, really appreciate your work of bring this show back from the past, I sincerely, sincerely, sincerely………beg all of you: PLZ, stop doing side projects and focus on the main ones here. Of course I’m not asking you guys dont do them at all, just that…………..ahhhhh………nevermind, again.

Ok, sorry for bothering you (if I continue, some one here would kill me for sure)

  14. I was going to say… So this is what you guys have been doing besides Denpa, dragon, R-15 and Zombie. But… I have been unable to determine to a 100% fact if those have been released on blu-ray. Which I believe they have been. So IDK

  15. Voting for onegai twins as well :)

Even “so fucked up” 2012′ BD is waaay better than 2003′ tv-rip :)

    • You should have at least had the DVD dual-audio years ago. But still 2012 BD is better than DVD-rip, even if it is dual-audio.

Not a fan of english dubs. Though I think they have been good on Slam Dunk/Yakitate Japan/Galaxy Angels. Other than that, I’m neither English nor American so I only have encountered minimal english dubs.

  16. Thank you very much for this sub!

Voting for Onegai Twins as well.

I love both shows and cant wait to see the result.

  17. NOOOOOOO!!! you can’t go to 10 bit please! my computer can’t play it or convert a video that’s 10bit!!!! please stick with 8bit i beg you!

    • Pretty much any computer can play 10bit. Any computer can convert 10bit to 8bit. You just need to do some research instead of complaining in comments. Welcome to 2012.

      • Sad to see what kind of encoder kira has with you- judging from how you represent yourself. such arrogant answers you tend to give in your comments have never been what kira-fansubs was representing to their fans over the last years. choose your words better for future comments as you do represent kira-fansubs with the fact that you are their encoder for now- or dont comment at all. This is not 4chan where a bunch of retards will appear and praise you for trolling or blackmailing someone. romeo built a solid community with his work he put into his website/s – dont “hit them in their faces” with such lowbrow comments of yours.

        • That’s fair enough. I’m just tired of people complaining about their inability to do something when there are so many resources available to help them do it. Googling “how to play 10bit” brings up many solutions including this which is currently considered to be the best way to decode video (and the guide is very easy to follow). I apologize if I came off as an asshole but that’s the only way to get through to some people.

Also I normally wouldn’t post in the comments at all except that romeyo007 made it pretty obvious in this release post that I should respond to any complainers.

FYI if someone posted something like “I’m having issues playing 10bit on my laptop. Does anyone have any advice?” as opposed to the usual “NOOO! I no can play 10bit! Y u do this to me! Plz no!” I would have responded in a much more cordial manner (like I have to do since you actually made a well thought out post that was beyond bitching tier).

          • @Virus123
It’s not a matter of how to play 10bit on a Pc because there’re a lot people who do not watch animme on a PC.

I’m using a hardware-based media player and 10bit will not work becaus it’s not just a matter of a simple software update. Even if i would buy a neu player… till now there’s no player available with 10bit support.

There was a time whre the whole fansub scene was founded in order to make it possible for as much people as possible to be able to watch a lot shows never released outside of Japan. Looks like times have changed and all those new groups do not care anymore about this.

          • Before you wax nostalgic about the good old days; remember the history of fansubs as a whole.
First there were just Fansubs, “There was a time whre the whole fansub scene was founded in order to make it possible for as much people as possible to be able to watch a lot shows never released outside of Japan” who released on VHS and you were happy to get it 6 months or a year after it had aired.

Then with easy access to computers came the explosive growth of fansub groups who released online. I’m sure that pi$$ed off all the folk who watched their anime on VCRs and fansubbing as they knew it was “dead”.

Next was probably the “invention” of Speed-Subs; the groups who entered into the ongoing race to release shows within hours after broadcast. Again the death-knell of fansubbing as speed replaced quality.

Then came the so-called BD-Rip groups who took the existing subs, shifted the timing to match the DVD/BD, and released. Now we all know that’s not fansubbing. Who do those people think they’re kidding? Imagine, stealing someone else’s work and releasing it. What nerve!(/sarcasm intended) These were followed by groups such as Kira who took the speedsubs (or regular “slow” subs), edited the scripts, added better styling, karaoke, typesetting, etc. and re-released them attached to better quality video and audio.

On the tech side of things….h264/mkv replacing xvid/avi as a standard? Heresy!
And don’t forget softsubs replacing hardsubs; that was also the end of “easy access” to the common man.

:D My response to the whole debate is I guess there’ll be a new niche in the fansub world.
Added to “regular” Fansub, Speed-Sub, and BD-Rip, will be a new style; Legacy groups.
They’ll take whatever was released and re-encode it backwards to placate those technologically challenged fans out there. This is the Modern World after all; Supply and Demand.
(And maybe, if we’re very, very lucky, they’ll go as far as to offer anime on VHS again for those of us who were around when “the whole fansub scene was founded”)

          • Sorry. Sometimes compatibility needs to be sacrificed for quality. Encoders are encoders because they try to get the best video quality possible. Fact is that the best quality usually needs a pc as a decoder. I don’t know any bluray encoders that encode with hardware compatibility in mind for exactly this reason. Also as far as I know soft subs don’t play on hardware anyway so it’s already broken even with 8bit.

For any hardware users I can only assume you use it to watch anime on TV. I have a TV too and do the same. However I use the better alternative and hook up my pc to my TV. Any modern TV can be hooked up to a pc or laptop very easily.

Finally I was not around when the fansub scene was founded, but I have seen subs from around that time… and they sucked. This is because quality was not a big issue when the scene originated since you were lucky if one group subbed a series. Now there is competition so groups are forced to try to be the best. This is a good thing since it promotes quality – again this leads away from compatibility. Survival of the fittest, hell yeah.

        • I know how u feel man, but sometimes being nice, have no effect on some people, so the only way to get through them is with this way. and sadly we are speaking truth hear. >_<

        • Sweetheart c’mon. It’s 2012 and every other site that I work or used to work for is no longer exclusively releasing in 8-bit.

And of course this isn’t 4chan, fags are releasing stuff for you for free and you still whine.

I also don’t think it’s fair that the encoder (Virus123) has to waste his time answering every single complaint on here, when its obvious every other group is also doing the same.

Then again, some fags are still complaining over Xvid so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. http://www.theverge.com/2012/3/4/2843937/torrent-user-controversy-format-x264-xvid

          • Wow, there are still people complaining about XVID? Then again, I’ve heard the same of AVI, so that’s nothing new. BTW, Andros, that was a mega awesome post on fansub history. I did a research paper on anime before, so I can affirm your statement.

On the actual encode, I need to DL, but I am so glad someone decided to do a BD version of it, and considering I know you guys, too, thats a relief. Oh, and +1 for Onegai Twins. It was hilarious.

        • Is it that hard to go to the “About” tab and go to “Playback”? If it doesn’t work, you can always ask on irc. You can always go to other groups if you want.

        • As the other kira’s encoder i will give u a reply, 99% of people always annoy us because we didn’t switched Hi10, and when people are complaining when we’re switching, we should take it nicely and say nothing ? Especially when 99% of theirs claims is because they’re too lazy to change their setup to be able to play Hi10 perfectly, even computers from 2005/2006 (not even top of the line @ this time) can play flawlessly 1080p Hi10 so whining about hardware issues is a bit exagerrated, stop using cheap 50$ TV players that have approximative x264 support and that’s it.

On another hand i tried to delay as much as possible the coming of Hi10 for kira, why ? Because it was still a brand new technology, that was under heavy devellopement, and i was waiting for more maturity, support, and bug-freeness, and enough time to work on it because for people who knows what they do Hi10 is a completely different beast to tame when you want to do a great job.

Now we have pretty good stable release of both encoding libraries & exe, and good codecs support too. The technology is finally mature enough to be injected into the production process.

As Marukom stated, there will always be people against progress, like when x264 took over Xvid, but we’re not going to stop for them, enough obscurantism & witch hunt, we’ll go forward with or without them, i think we took it as nice & slow as possible for most if not all people to adjust.

          BoZ

          • People should really stop whining over Hi10P, hardware player, old PC, etc.
Because next year h265 will be released and is meant to replace h264, so anyway every hardware player, old PC, etc they have now will go to trash.
And I confirm that an old P4 can play Hi10P too.

          • Hum before h265 become mainstream you can count a good 2 years until a stable milestone :) but yeah it’s coming. But as i stated most people complaining about Hi10 use TV appliance to play h264 and none of them support Hi10, that’s why.

          • @BoZ
It doesn’t have anything to do with changing the setup. I would do this but there is no hardware-based player with 10bit support. My PC ist placed in my office and plugged to a small 20″ display.

Looks like you have no understanding for people who don’t like to to play HD on a small TFT display. Or do i have to unplug my PC and place it in my living room every time i want to watch anime on my 55″ display ? All just because of 10bit with very slight improvement compared to 8bit ?

            @Virus123
What make you think that softsubs don’t play on a hardware media player ? I’ve bought 3 differnt players from different manufacturers and softsub is working fine with all of them.

The only problem is, that common videoprocessors used for hardware players simply do not support 10bit because of hardware limitations. Only 8bit or 12bit will work. If you make such a big deal about sacrifices for quality then how about 12bit encodes ?

  18. Thank you so much for this release! Onegai Teacher is probably my all-time favorite anime and, even if the source isn’t that great, I still appreciate that you took the time to release it.

Also, count my vote as well for Onegai Twins! It deserves a BD release, even if it may not look as good as other series.

  19. This is pretty awesome. I’m glad for the 10-bit release and I would definitely love to see an Onegai Twins release. I actually enjoyed it more that Onegai Teacher

Thanks for the release as always. =D

    • Honestly, I’ve been more fan of the Onee-san types, but I also enjoyed Twins over Teacher.

      (and the incest factor)

      +1 for Onegai Twins BD.

  20. Does anyone else see the video shaking on episode 5? I checked both 720 and 1080 and both versions had the jumpy video for just that one episode. All of the other videos don’t do this and the episode still plays fine so I was wondering if it was a problem with the source or not.

  21. I’m sure someone has asked this already but I don’t really what to do.

When I played this, the OP and ED karaoke appear for a split second and then disappear. The video is fine and there is no lagging but the karaoke disappears for some reason. Do you how I can fix it?

  22. Thanks for the release. Much! Waiting for the rest in high anticipation. And I also vote for Twins. I have a decent 480 mkv release, but I would not hesitate to download a good 720.

    bravo!

  23. Question about the OP scene on this and the OP and ED on R-15. They don’t play properly on my system.

I’m using the latest CCCP codec pack and Media Player Classic and the actual anime plays just fine, but the OP and ED on R-15 and the OP in Onegai just sticks and hitches.

I’m running a quad core system with 4 GIGs of RAM and a Geforce GTX 260, so I figure hardware specs aren’t the problem. Any ideas from anyone?

      • Thanks. It was the VSfilter.dll problem.

Weird. I never have a problem playing back other fansubs 10-bit releases. What does Kira do differently?

        • It’s not the video, so the 10bit issue will have no effect. The issue is the subtitle renderer, which you have now solved for yourself. Most groups you will find don’t have karaoke that will break the subtitle renderer, but occasionally you’ll find a release that does, such as our R-15. The renderer that comes with CCCP is unable to handle that level of karaoke effects, so to get the proper playback you need to change the subtitle renderer to the version of VSFilter that you have now obtained.

tl;dr: CCCP’s subtitle renderer needs updated to properly play some karaoke, and you have to update it yourself.

    • I just finished timing ep 10, so it won’t be long until i’m done. i’m planning on releasing the whole batch this weekend if nothing got in the way.

      • I do hope everything will go well, so i can finish watching it this weekend. Best of luck to you and all Kira-fansub members.

    • I double this, I actually did like the English dub, and I am peaky on that, if not then I will see if my a4e version fits, if not find another one that will (V_V). On the second hand I also drop my vote on please do Onegai Twins in 720p d(-_^) If you have hi10 bit play back issues, get a new laptop or PC. I will be doin that so I can play them better. Also update to the latest CCCP id you use Win OS. Zoom player(Home Free) is what I use to watch, if you get it it will auto tell you what codecs to DDL. Yeah before you wine look at the FAQs floating on the net as well to help you with your hi10p playback problem.
