1. Just in case it wasn’t made clear enough… WE ARE DESPERATELY RECRUITING TIMERS AND TYPESETTERS.

   • How desperate are you guys?
     When you guys say “experienced” How much experience is required?

   • What exactly does a typesetter do?

     • general idea
       “Typesetter (abbreviation: TS[er]): The typesetter applies subtitle styling (font style, font size, subtitle coloring, etc) to the dialogue subtitles; and creates text and uses styles text via .ssa/.ass override commands associated with various signs that many appear in the video, as indicated and translated by the translator. Typically, typesetting occurs after translation checking, timing, and editing, and before encoding.

       Before encoding occurs, other jobs are done to the episode or series to various degrees depending on the group.

       Styling: Styling involves the font selection, font sizing, and font coloring of subtitles. Styling also occurs for various signs including episode and next episode titles, series title (if AFx isn’t used), and signs that occur in various scenes in the episode. Typically, styling is lumped under the typesetting department, since it is also a one-shot job for a series. However, there have been credits for styling that weren’t performed by the typesetter. Styling is one of the three primary factors (along with encoding and translation) that leechers use to decide what series to download and keep.”

   • You say desperate and that’s good enough for me to lend a hand but me as being as inexperienced as I am, I would need to be taught how I even begin to even help. Though I really do want to help, so where do I sign up?

   • Batch? Are you kidding? It’s only 2 volumes. NOT episode by episode release

     • I’m assuming at the possibility of v2, I’m not kidding.

       And it’s not like they confirmed the Twins BD as a project AFAIK, now that they need more people to work on it.

       • we did start on encoding Twin BD, but i’m still not sure when i’m going to work on it. maybe after i’m done working on haganai since we already started on that.

     • Another thing: It doesn’t mean that a series won’t have a batch if it’s not an episode by episode release. Even Kira’s per volume releases have a final batch release.

     • it’s 3 Disks, I’m sure there is no need for v2 for any of the episodes, I hope. but yea, the complete batch with everything will be release after I’m done from my final exams

3. There are a few things I need to say. Yell at me if u angry, because this is just my point of view, so it’s unavoidable that it’s somewhat narrow mind:

   I think u should put on sth like a tutorial here. Yes, I mean it. I suppose most of your staff -including you- begin to work part/full time, due to one or other reason. So u are in need of manpower. However, many other people out there, including me, can not help you, even if we want, simply because…….we’re completely novice (^_^)

   If u give me a subtitle file (an .ass file), I can put it on the .mkv file, by using FormatFactory & convert both. That’s the only way I know, since I used it on or two times before. But that’s also not possible to assure u the exactly time, since…….I didnt do anything, the program do it all.

   So what is exactly the procedure of timing? I dont know. That’s why I need someone who teach me how to do that. Yes, I do want to help, but I need an adviser —> (^_^) A step-by-step tutorial, btw, since I’m new (^_^)

   I think if you put something like that on, you might have more helping hands than you thought.

   • If you search the web there is a lot of guides and tutorial, the best one I can think of is Doki tutorial http://doki.co/support/doki-timing-guide/
     It’s hard to be good at it in one day, that why you need to practice a lot until you master everything, then you can say you are experienced in it.

4. I’m one of those who can help out, but the problem is experience. I’ve never timed from scratch because I never felt like doing things for my own are worth the time. Usually shifting times, keyframe snapping, lead- in and outs and changing fonts is all that I do.
   With some guidance from an experience timer and typesetter it would be more interesting in learning it. But thats most of the time a problem, people come and go. If the person stays it’s worth the time teaching him stuff. Loyalty is so hard to find.
   An other way is to have a smaller group and focus on more quality and less quantity. Wouldn’t want to see Kira go, I like to shows you pick.

   • in BD release which been TL before, we don’t time from scratch. the only time with time from scratch if we TL the episode ourselves. if you know what to do, and can prove that in the test, then you are a good timer. speed not our factor anymore, so we’re not looking for people that can time 3 or 5 episode a day, 1 episode every other day is good with us.

     • If that’s all that is required for your timer, sounds like I may be able to help.

5. I was just wondering – how come all the eps are in the range of 170-200 MB and ep 11 is 454? was there extra work done on it?

   • Talking about the 720p of course

     • There’s lots of “memories”. They are noisy. Noisy scenes requires high bitrate to keep quality. Isn’t it obvious?

       • Obvious for you alright, but not for layman like us. Thanks for the answer.

         • Can anyone explain why the 720P releases are only, roughly 200MB big compared to other anime series? I found out that the bit rate is in the 12XX kbps range, whereas other ones are generally 14xx kbps. Does it have a huge impact on quality? There shouldn’t be over a 100MB size difference per episode right?

         • Oh I just went back to your history, and it seems that this is due to a source problem? Or was I right on the bitrate?

   you one of the best and respectable fansub group in the net, and one of my favorite , to lose you guys will mean huge lost to all otakus!

   i really want to help you guys but i really noob at subbing and don’t have time to learn, i have strong PC to encoding stuff and etc.. but again i don’t know how to do it….

   if it was just to download a program, set it settings up, and let the pc do the rest of the work i wouldn’t think twice and help you right away.
   But since we talking here about stuff that you need experience with.. i really don’t think i can help =(

8. First of all, let me thank you for releasing the next part of Onegai Teacher. I’ve been anxiously waiting for it, and I’m glad it’s finally here.

   Now, I just have 1 question regarding that image you put in this post: Where did you get it? Are there more like this one? I notice it’s related in some way to the DVD release and I’d like to get them all for collection’s sake.

11. Good luck with the exams and best wishes for the recruitment. It would be sad to see an end to Kira but it happens to most groups eventually. Real life gets in the way.

12. Well, i believe I can’t thank you enough for the effort and time you put in this and all your other releases, for my, there are only 4 top notch english fansubs and you along doki command the list.

    Just like the other leechers, I’ve been really anxious waiting for this second part, so finally I can go in peace….

    Finally, one doubt, at the time, will you add the caps to the xdcc, I ask beacuse sometimes I have problems with the torrents, but at the time it is downloading, not as fast as I would like, but lot better than nothing.

    • the problem is BoZ the bot owner and distro been away for 2 weeks, and the only thing i have control over is the seed box. so we have to wait until he show up again.

13. In the mean time romeyo, why not try asking some other BD-based groups? Like, say, as folks at Rizlim or Final8? They seem to do it well.

    • the thing with group like Rizlim or Final8, they only remux the script to their encode or raw, which not the way we do it here. and i doubt everyone have their worry with their group too.

      • My own idea, of course. I think every one are busy, so why not cooperate to reduce the workload. Of course if u work with, say, rizlim, then both of u need to share your parts. Beside, i think if we’re all busy, then remux other scripts into your file is not a bad idea, since it means less work need to be done. C’mon man (>_<) not like i tell u to betray your quality, but in such a hard time, why not low it a little bit? i think every one will understand

14. I’m glad I came to your site before I downloaded this. The torrent on nyaa doesn’t
    say they are 10bit files. I would have downloaded all of it for nothing. I burn all of my files to HD dvd and watch everything on my tv. Too bad the 720p could’t have been 8bit.

17. @Rizlim + romeyo: I sincerely hope u guy can work together and overcome this. I really hate to see such a group like Kira to vanish to thin air because of lack of personnel, while some other new groups like Final8 or Rizlim has their time, but only got one or two staff.

19. to start wet me thanks you for all your good work watching anime from your group was nothing more than a blessing for me both image quality subbing nothing to say you’re ahead of any other fansub i still hope that you don’t close losing you is something terrible for me i want to help but like the other am nood at those thing and my pc not that strong

For everyone who has trouble playing the OP kxf: copy the subs to a separate ass. file [I use MPC-HC for this], then either play off of it directly or remux it. @ Kira; I tried following the advice on your playback issues page, ended up having to re-install my player and software support from scratch because they all crashed. This is meant to say that the advice on the playback issues page is not compatible for everyone’s computer/player, probably works well for computers/players it is compatible with.
