By a stroke of good luck it seems I got accepted into my university’s Study Abroad Program in Japan. I’ll be traveling around Japan for three weeks visiting three different cities: Tokyo, Toyohashi, Kyoto. Needless to say, I’m excited as hell for the perhaps once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit this awesome place.
I’m planning on buying a new camera to take shots and film many of my encounters over in Japan. I’m also going to see if I can somehow get the chance to have a nice chat with some anime-connected folks over there. And as an anime fan, I’m really really looking forward to visit that one place that all otakus dream of going to: Akihabara.
However reality can be harsh, since I have to find a way to earn $4,400 in order to fully pay for the trip. In addition to working part-time as a translator, I’m currently contacting several companies to see if they would be interested in funding a portion of the costs. If you guys would like to help out by donating a little, it would definitely be much appreciated.
If I manage to somehow fully fund this trip, stay tuned for my nearly daily blog posts on it come this summer. For this rare opportunity, I’ll be sure to make the best of it by coming in contact with as many folks as possible.
The trip is from May 20 through June 8.
If you can and like to help me, please send it to my paypal account: romeyo007 at hotmail dot com or click on the donation box on the right slide.
Thank you very much

I congratulate you on getting chosen for the trip. I hope you have fun and take lots of pictures^^. Though I can’t offer much, I donated $5 to your funds. I’ve been visiting this site for well over a year now, and it’s the least I can do to show my appreciation for all the work you’ve done. May you have a great time and I hope you earn all the funds you need.
Thank you very much
Glad for u! ^^
3 weeks? How does 3 weeks constitute a study programme?
You should be going for 3 months at bare minimum.
3 Weeks isn’t even enough for a decent tour.
Good luck man. My father recently got stationed in Japan. I will be visiting her in the summer. I’m excited.
I wish you good luck on your fund raising. Hopefully you’ll make it. Since I have been visiting this site for a while now i feel it is only natural that I give something back even though it’s not much.
Daaaamn I’m envious! Wish I had the chance to go to Japan. Maybe I should start saving up…
Oh well, at least I had the chance to go on a 2 week study trip to Vietnam, and that was fun as hell.
Good luck with your program.
hey romeyo007!!
just saw you at the Dead or Alive 5 Plus Page at US Playstation Blog
enjoy your stay in japan, can’t wait for the games you plan on purchasing ^^
oh hey, u found me.
.
I’m only 2 steps away from going to japan, still not 100% going unless I got the rest of the fund
but i’m doing my best so my dream comes true.
well you always post here in Kira-Fansubs
aww, hopefully you go through!!!
even though i would like to donate, im on tight budget right now
due to college and stuff.
i hope you it comes true!!!
heheh ya I guess.
Thanks
Four thousand dollars to go to Japan …? What the hell? Maybe if you don’t know what you’re doing/don’t have family there/can’t speak the language..
I have been to Japan about 8 times. My wife is also Japanese. But I can’t understand where that number is coming from. I mean, you SPEAK/READ Japanese .. why can’t you just do everything yourself, and not go through some kind of program/other crap? That seems like someone/company is making a profit on you.
Buy your own ticket. Get your own space (hotel/whatever). Buy your own food.
Ticket months in advance for a non-stop round trip = $1,000.00~1,300.00
Food for three weeks if you’re not obese = $200.00/$300.00
Very small one-person hotel room @APA Hotel Akihabara-Ekimae = $1,731.00
Which brings us to a total of $3,331.00 .. which would mean you would have nearly a THOUSAND dollars left over to cover some taxes, anime-shit, trains and what-have-you.
+1000$ free train pass then that sum it up. add to that i get 12 credit hours toward my major. and we calculated if I wanna do everything by myself in this year it will cost me at least 6000$. don’t forget the prices changes from the past years.
So how is your progress going towards the total? When do you have to have the final payment by? How short are you at present?
Right now I’m at the last payment due which 1100$ but I still need at least another 1000$ for other stuff. I still have until the end of april. but as going I’m going for sure, even I have to knock on every house to get that money xD
I kicked in $20 for you which I see you have gotten. Not much but hopefully it helps.
Take care of yerself there… And many happy returns…!
Also hope these helps…

Just sent you my contribution, romeyo007. In my opinion you deserve any help we can give for your contributions to the community.
I hope you enjoy your trip.
20th of May, that is tomorrow, all the best, hope everything goes well
Mate, have an awesome time in Japan. I went there at the start of this year and it was amazing! Hopefully you won’t get blind drunk like I did when I went a little overboard with the sake, that stuff is strong!
